Economic strength and technological advances allow us to travel at great speed from one place to another to locate ourselves in those nodes where knowledge and relational capital are concentrated. On the other hand, knowledge and “excellence” connect and dialogue at a speed never seen before.

Although at first the internet has fed our disconnection with the spatial dimension, we are beginning to notice dynamics that project us in a clearly opposite direction.

Coworking spaces, where independent professionals meet and work side by side and collaborate on a daily basis with variable geometry teams, being in one project collaborators and in another competence, are an example of the advantages of new forms of proximity that make sense when at the same time there is an ease of relationship, communication and collaboration from long distances. In other words, thanks to what we can call the glocal dimension.

Coworkers could clearly work from home, however they decide to share a space because they understand that this space multiplies synergies and work opportunities. In the same way, coworking spaces are usually positioned within the consolidated city with the aim of intercepting the flows and movements of the city’s most innovative professionals and agents.

As these nodes of concentration of excellence become fragmented and/or disappear and as processes of knowledge production become more and more distributed, the protagonists begin to reconnect with the communities of proximity and therefore recover their interest in the spatial dimension. In this way, processes of Situated Collective Intelligence emerge, where reflection and the resulting action are directly related to the territory in which it is developed.

The connection with the community of proximity highlights new concerns that can only be solved by counting on the neighbour next door. If I want to eat healthy and I want a fair remuneration of the people who produce the food, I can only achieve it by generating processes of Collective Intelligence with my neighbours, since traditional mechanisms privilege at all times only the economic aspects, without taking into account the community or certain ethical evaluations.

In short, we realise that the recovery of interest in the territory tambień passes through a series of phenomena and actions in which people, citizens, better understood as Multitude (Negri 2004) return to act in common and the digital sphere is being extremely useful for this.

We have witnessed a development of all the reflection on our way of living the territory, of governing it and of improving our coexistence from an extremely simplified perspective, fruit of a model of thought that had not yet been able to take advantage of the enormous experience generated by the “practice” of the network.

We can see new models and practices of management and transformation of the territory, where we are able to promote collaboration between actors who have usually acted in a disconnected and exclusive way.

The arrival of new technologies has opened the way for new relational practices and a new collective imaginary that is capable of taking into account for the first time and in a synchronized way, the local dimension together with the global one, generating what has been called the Glocal dimension.
