SentientID: The definitive connection between physical Identity, environment and digital Identity
A few days ago, Ecosistema Urbano posted a new update with the description of some projects developed during de Networked Urbanism studio at GSD. Most of the projects promote a positive hybridization between physical and digital layer which is one of my principal interests. Actually one of my “obsessions” is developing the definitive connection between physical identity, environment and digital identity with a project called SentientID. I’ve just realized that I haven’t yet published some text in english about my project Sentient. So let me tell you more about this project.
SentientID is an App for mobile devices that will allow us to manage the projection of our Digital ID in the environment in which we find ourselves in real time. The definitive connection between physical Identity, environment and digital Identity. For the first time we take advantage physically in real time of our digital information and the information of everything that is surrounding us. Creating opportunities, Serendipity, which currently are unthinkable because of the lack of this technology. We want to develop a first version/prototype of the app. Showing the capacity of it to gather these three layers in real time and allowing users to manage their Digital ID. Why SentientID?
We understand that as well as we can decide how to interact, behave, what information is relevant and what not, depending on the person and the context and environment in which we live that is not happening with our Digital Identity SentientID aims to be the definitive connection between the information that circulates in the digital layer and what happens in real time in physical space. Transforming the mobile device into a connection between people, devices and active sensors in a specific environment. (Internet of things).
Through this, the digital identity can work and react in real time, interacting with all types of transmitters of information, human or not, that builds it environment, regaining present time that by now it doesn´t exists because it loses its capacity of ubiquity, without direct connection to the physical position of the person. T
he possibility arises in order to exploit the speed of exchange of digital information and the ability of smartphones and other devices (situated technology), to analyze, process and suggest to users actions, places, projects and close contacts are likely to like them (serendipity).
SentientID offers a new framework for relationships between people and environment around us. A step forward by adding a new model of connecting people based on physical proximity, in addition to the already established models based on common interests and degrees of friendship. It usability can be associated with more established media, for example between neighbors in a street or neighborhood, or a more dynamic communication, like visitors and tourists.
When we move through the city with SentientID, we can have access to the information that my friends have posted on the internet about these places I’m visiting. But also I can find projects related to my interests that are in front of me, but invisible to my eyes.
We can interact with people that are doers of what happens in a determined area without the process of adding them as friends. Simply by taking advantage of the proximity, it opens us a new way of creating new spaces of sharing knowledge and opportunities.
